Ever since Spotify Connect was brought to the Apple ecosystem, iOS users have benefitted from the ability to stream Spotify music directly to their compatible speakers via a Wi-Fi connection. As usual, the Android platform had to patiently wait before Spotify Connect was available to it as well. At last, the wait is over. Starting today, Android users can use the Spotify Connect service on their devices.Spotify Connect has several advantages that make it stand out among similar apps that take advantage of your Bluetooth-enabled speakers. First of all, Spotify Connect uses your Wi-Fi connection, which means that you can be further from your speakers in comparison to where you'd be if you used a Bluetooth streaming service. Unlike similar services, answering a phone call on your Android device won't interfere with the streaming and pause the playback on the remote speaker system.
Unfortunately, there are several downsides to Spotify Connect. First of all, it is still available only to premium users. Secondly, the list of speakers that would work with Spotify is currently not very long, featuring several Pioneer, Bang&Olufsen and Philips systems at the moment, but according to official information, Spotify Connect will very soon be supported by a wider range of speakers. Alas, the service will neither allow you to stream your local files (only streaming content is supported at the moment), nor stream to more than one speaker system simultaneously.
